Prior to last night's game, Mets manager Terry Collins told ESPN's Adam Rubin that Andres Torres is yet to resume full-speed baseball activities. Despite doing outfield exercises in Port St. Lucis, he remains a minimum of a week away from ramping things up.
Collins also told Rubin that Torres will not rejoin the team until he is sprinting full-speed without incident. His eventual promotion will bring with it the demotion of Kirk Nieuwenhuis to AAA Buffalo where he can continue to play every day.
Because there is no real outline for his rehabilitation, there is no telling how quickly Torres can make it back from the disabled list. Once he does get moving, the team will be forced to take a wait and see approach to determine how Torres' now twice injured calf will respond.
