Only hours after the Mets announced that Jason Bay will be forced onto the disabled list as a result of a broken rib suffered in last night's game against the San Francisco Giants, they have now also announced the Mike Pelfrey will join him there. Pelfrey has experienced discomfort in his throwing elbow, with Sandy Alderson stating that ligament damage has not been ruled out thus far. It would be the first major injury of Pelfrey's career, and one that will greatly damage the depth of the Mets starting staff, which was counting on 200 innings from him this year.
That makes three players placed onto the disabled list in just over 24 hours for the Mets, a team with questionable depth coming out of spring training. An injury to Ronny Cedeno forced the promotion of Jordanny Valdespin yesterday. Bay's injury brought with it the promotion of Zach Lutz and now according to ESPN's Adam Rubin, Robert Carson will be temporarily promoted to take Mike Pelfrey's place.
