Pre-Game: Game 10 - New York Mets @ Atlanta Braves

After taking 2 0f 3 from the Phillies in Philadelphia, the Mets will travel south and open a 3 game series with the Braves tonight at Turner Field. After being swept by the Mets to begin the 2012 season and losing the first game in their series with Houston, the Braves have since rattled off 5 straight wins to put them over the .500 mark at 5-4. The hot streak was sparked by the return of Chipper Jones from the DL, who in typical Chipper fashion, has done nothing but rake since returning to the Braves lineup (5-12, 2 HR, 5 RBI). The Braves are a much different team now then they were just two weeks ago when the Mets swept them at Citi Field.

After taking the first 2 games of their series with the Phillies, the Mets had an opportunity to complete the sweep as they took at 2-1 lead into the bottom of the 7th yesterday. However, reliever Ramon Ramirez was unable to hold the lead as he gave up the tying and winning runs in the 7th before the Phillies broke the game open with a 5 run 8th. Still, the Mets have opened the 2012 season at 6-3 and should feel good about themselves heading into their 3 game set with the Atlanta Braves.

On the hill for the Braves will be RHP Tommy Hanson (1-1, 2.70 ERA). Hanson got the opening day nod from Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez against the Mets and pitched very well, holding the Mets scoreless over the first 4 innings before tiring and giving up the lone run of the game in the 5th. Hanson has pitched well against the Mets in his career despite a 3-4 record.

On the mound for the Mets will be RHP Dillon Gee (0-1, 5.06 ERA). Despite giving up 4 runs over 5.1 IP, Gee actually pitched quite well in his first start of the year. After giving up a run in the 1st inning, Gee settled down and held the Nationals scoreless until the 6th inning. However, Gee, who was clearly tired could not get past the 6th and departed down 2-0 before the bullpen allowed 2 more of his inherited runners to score, pushing the deficit to 4-0. Gee has pitched well against the Braves in his career. In 4 career appearances against ATL, Gee is 2-2, with a 3.46 ERA over 39 IP.
