The Mets and Marlins will play the 3rd and final game of their series this afternoon from Citi Field. After taking game 1 thanks to a strong performance from Johan Santana, R.A. Dickey took the ball last night and was equally as dominant as Santana was the night before. Dickey pitched 7 innings and allowed only 1 run, a Solo HR to his personal nemesis Omar Infante in the 5th inning. Today the Mets will go for the sweep of the hated Marlins behind left-handed starter Jon Niese (2-0, 2.89).
Niese has been very good in his first 3 starts of the season, lasting at least 6 innings in all of them and pitching to the tune of a 2.89 ERA. Niese seems to enjoy pitching in day games as he has compiled a 3.68 ERA in such games since the start of last season compared to 4.70 in evening games. Jon has not fared well against the Marlins in his career as he is 1-4, with a 5.67 ERA over 33.1 innings pitched.
On the mound for the Marlins today will be right-hander Ricky Nolasco (2-0, 3.93). Nolasco was not very sharp in his last start against the Cubs at home as he allowed 3 runs, on 8 hits, and 3 BB's over 5.1 innings pitched. The Mets have handled Nolasco well in the past. The right-hander has a career record of 5-7, with a 5.27 ERA vs New York.
