Pre-Game: Game 4 - Washington Nationals @ New York Mets

After an opening weekend sweep of the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field, the Mets will welcome in the much improved Washington Nationals. The Nationals, who were already loaded with good young talent, were very active this past off-season. They brought in starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez from the A’s and signed tonight’s starting pitcher Edwin Jackson from the St. Louis Cardinals. The Nationals have gotten off to a good start by winning their first two match-ups with the Cubs, before dropping the series finale yesterday by the score of 4 to 3 at Wrigley Field.

Pitching Match-up:

Edwin Jackson (0-0, 0.00) will make his Washington Nationals debut tonight after signing a 1 yr, $11M deal this off-season. Jackson was a member of the 2011 World Champion St. Louis Cardinals and pitched well for them after being acquired in a deadline deal from the Chicago White Sox by going 5-2, with a 3.58 ERA. Jackson in his career against the Mets is 0-0, with a 9.00 ERA over 5 IP.

On the bump for the Mets tonight will be RHP Mike Pelfrey (0-0, 0.00). Pelfrey is coming off a terrible 2010 campaign and looked awful in his first few starts of the spring. However, in his last 2 GS of spring training Pelfrey seemed to have turned the corner by pitching 10.1 total innings while giving up 2 ER. In his career against Washington, Pelfrey sports a record of 4-7, with a 4.02 ERA over 109.2 IP.
