Pre-Game: Game 5 - Washington Nationals @ New York Mets

The Mets will look to stay undefeated in 2012 as they play game 2 of their 3 game series with the Washington Nationals this evening at Citi Field. Now 4-0, the Mets are off to their best start since 2007 and will look to extend their win streak to open the season to 5 games, their longest such streak to start a season since 1985. Struggling first baseman Ike Davis (0-15) will get tonight off and will be evaluated by Mets doctors to make sure that his Valley Fever symptoms no longer linger. Justin Turner will start in his place at 1B.

The Nationals will send LHP Ross Detwiler (0-0, 0.00) to the mound this evening to try and stop the Mets winning streak. Detwiler beat out veteran pitcher John Lannan for the 5th spot in the Nats' rotation, a surprise to many. In his career against the Mets, Detwiler is 1-1, with a 4.50 ERA across 18 innings pitched. Look for the red hot David Wright to continue his hot hitting tonight as he enters the game 4-8 (1 HR) in his career against Detwiler.

On the mound for the Mets tonight will be RHP Dillon Gee (0-0, 0.00). After winning 13 games in 2011, Gee will look to take the next step in his career and solidify himself as a regular in the Mets starting rotation for years to come. Gee has pitched very well against the Nats' in his young career, sporting a 3-0 record, with a 3.09 ERA. This will be Gee's first start in 2012.
