Pre-Game: Game 8 - Mets @ Phillies

After an opportunistic offensive effort last night that saw the Mets earn a win versus Cliff Lee, they will try to secure a series victory this afternoon when Jon Niese (1-0,4.50 ERA) takes the mound against Vance Worley (0-0, 1.50 ERA) at 4:05 pm in Philly.

The twenty-five year old Niese is coming off of a brilliant outing on Easter Sunday that saw him take a no-hit bid into the seventh inning against the Atlanta Braves before surrendering several late runs. Fans should hope for more of the same against the Phillies not so formidable lineup.

The Phillies' Vance Worley is coming off of a strong performance of his own, going six strong and allowing only one run against the Pittsburgh Pirates in what ultimately ended in a no-decision for him and a 5-4 loss for the Phillies. Worley has pitched well against the Mets in his young career with a 3-1 record to date.

The return of David Wright, five days removed from breaking his right pinky finger should be a big boost for the Mets who went 1-2 in his absence. As a result of being in the lineup, it appears that Wright will also avoid a trip to the disabled list. As a result, here are the lineups:

New York Mets:
1) Ruben Tejada SS
2) Daniel Murphy 2B
3) David Wright 3B
4) Ike Davis 1B
5) Jason Bay LF
6) Lucas Duda RF
7) Kirk Nieuwenhuis CF
8) Josh Thole C
9) Jon Niese P

Philadelphia Phillies:
1) Shane Victorino CF
2) Placido Polanco 3B
3) Jimmy Rollins SS
4) Hunter Pence RF
5) John Mayberry LF
6) Ty Wigginton 1B
7) Freddy Galvis 2B
8) Brian Schneider C
9) Vance Worley P

Could be another big early season victory today! Lets Go Mets!!
