Pre-game: Game 9 - Mets @ Phillies

Behind two excellent starting pitching performances from RA Dickey and Jon Niese, the Mets took the first two games of the series by a combined score of 10 to 2.  Today, they enter the 1:35 pm game looking for the sweep over the hated Phillies.  If successful, it would be their second sweep in three series to start the season and would moved them to 7-2 on the year.

The Mets will send big Mike Pelfrey (0-0, 4.76) to the mound looking to build on what was a so-so first outing of the season.  Despite struggling on multiple occasions against the Nationals, Mike held them to only three runs over 5.2 innings, ultimately keeping the Mets in the contest that ended in a win.  He will seek more consistency in his second start of the year.

The Phillies will counter with Cole Hamels (0-1, 5.06) who has historically struggled against the Mets in his career, pitching to only a 3-10 record in 17 starts against New York.  He, like Pelfrey, game up three runs in his first outing of the season, during which he pitched 5.1 innings in a loss to the Miami Marlins.  He will be looking to return to form, as the third member of what is widely considered to be the best rotation in baseball.
