Pre-game: Game 24 - Mets @ Astros

When the New York Mets (13-10) take on the Houston Astros (9-14) at 8:05 tonight, they will look to avenge an unfortunate defeat last night in which their bullpen squandered a late inning comeback attempt.  They will also do so without two of their every day players.  Lucas Duda remains sidelined with the flu and Daniel Murphy is being given his first day off of the season.

Scott Hairston will be inserted into the lineup on behalf of Duda in right-field and Justin Turner will get an increasingly rare start for Daniel Murphy at second.  Turner is curiously slotted into the three hole, for a reason I can't really wrap my head around, but if he can continue to put together quality at bats like he has of late, he should fair well there, giving the runners ahead of him ample time to make things happen on the base paths.

The Mets will send Jon Niese (2-0, 2.81 ERA) to the mound looking for his fifth consecutive quality starter.  Coming off of a no decision against the Miami Marlins in which he pitched a strong seven innings, Niese will look to improve upon his career 1-1 record against Houston and notch his third victory of the year.

The Astros will counter with J.A. Happ (1-1, 4.70 ERA), who has not earned a win since his first start of the season on April 9th.  His most recent outing was his shortest of the season, in which he gave up four runs in only five innings pitched.  Happ has a 2-2 career record against the Mets.
