Speculation- Niese for Salty

It's not just the NY reporters who are speculating about Salty being on the block now that the Red Sox signed David Ross, Boston beat writers are also making the same conclusions.

Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald also believes that the Ross signing could make Salty vulnerable and the Mets would be a fit.

Lauber puts two and two together between the Mets needs, Salty's availability and Alderson discussing Niese as a potential trade candidate.

I'm not a fan of trading Niese, he's their only young lefty and he's locked up at a decent price for several years.

I know you deal from your depth and the Mets currently have depth in starting pitching but with Harvey, Wheeler, Mejia and Familia all being right handed I'd be reluctant to consider Niese available. If  I had to trade one of my young pitchers I would choose between Mejia and Familia while keeping Wheeler, Harvey and Niese as my rotation for the next few years.

New York Mets: Without provocation, GM Sandy Alderson said this week he would be willing to trade a pitcher, perhaps even lefty Jon Niese, who went 13-9 with a 3.40 ERA in 190-1/3 innings this year. Mets first baseman Ike Davis also may interest the Red Sox. And after catcher Josh Thole went only .234/.294/.290 with one homer in 104 games, they’re in the market for an upgrade. source Boston Globe
