According to multiple reports the Mets have signed Marlon Byrd to a minor league contract with an invite to spring training. The 35 y/o has a leg up on the competition because of his veteran experience and he bats righty while hitting double digit home runs in four straight seasons.
Byrd can play center and is a lifetime .278 BA but last year hit only .210 in 143 AB. There's no risk to bringing him in as a minor leaguer.
The Mets were linked to Byrd several times under Omar.
